Banana swirl

banana swirl 1Or, as our daughter says – “bana squirrel!” :-)

We were watching Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood one day and they made a fun treat called banana swirl.  The characters made it but then after the show, there was a little vignette of a real family making it, too.  They put some banana chunks in the freezer, then when frozen they put the banana into a blender and voila – banana swirl.

Just frozen banana blended up.  And they ate it like ice cream.  Color me intruguied.

I don’t know what made me think of this yesterday, as it’s been a while but when I got home from work I cut up a banana and put it in the freezer so we could have banana swirl after dinner. BUT – only if sugar pea ate a good dinner.  And let me just say I was excited about this little treat and little missy miss wasn’t too keen on dinner so I was gettin’ a little nervous. :-)  She came through though.  Whew!

It’s a healthy treat and it’s easy for kiddos to help out.  Our daughter was so excited about making “bana squirrel” and loved sitting up on the counter & putting the banana chunks into the blender one by one.

Banana Swirl
Time:  Once your banana chunks are frozen, this takes about 2 minutes.
Makes:  We used 1 banana and split the result into 2 portions

Banana, sliced into chunks

Put banana chunks into a bowl let sit in the freezer for a couple of hours or until frozen.  When frozen, put banana chunks into blender.  Blend until smooth.  You’ll have to stop the blender a couple of times to push the banana pieces back down toward the blade because initially they will fly all over the blender.  But be patient – they will blend together into sort of a frozen yogurt consistency.

Yum! :-)
